What to drink on a hike to avoid leg cramps

Lemon Juicer On our first serious hike (Tent Ridge Horseshoe) we made a big mistake: did not take enough water. A consequences were very painful, at least for me – I got leg cramps. Who never experienced them, I wish you never do, because some people compare them to a crocodile bite.

Billybee honey Once we’ve got home back then, my wife googled it and figured that the cause probably was major dehydration and lack of electrolyte. We had a bottle of soda in the fridge, she added a bit of salt to it and I drank a lot of it. Since then – no cramps, but we take every precaution now. We came up with a very simple recipe of electrolyte drink which works for both of us perfectly, it’s called lemonade (well, sort of 🙂 ):

Squeeze two lemons in two liters of filtered water and add two table spoons of honey. Put it in a fridge and don’t forget it there next morning when you go on a hike.
